We’re almost a week past the start of NFL free agency. Here’s how all 32 teams are shaping up in my latest power rankings.
32. Arizona Cardinals
Surprised not to see the Cleveland Browns here? We’ll get to that later but there’s a new team at the bottom of the power rankings. The Arizona Cardinals come in at No. 32 after a confusing start to the offseason and free agency. Carson Palmer’s retirement has left a huge hole to fill under center and general manager Steve Keim has brought in some questionable replacements.
It’s one thing to have limited options but signing Sam Bradford to a one-year, $20 million deal is absurd. Adding Mike Glennon to the mix just makes you question the decisions of the front office even more. That’s $28 million spent on two horrible bridge quarterbacks and things don’t get much easier.
The Cardinals sit with the No. 15 pick in the NFL draft and are in a horrible position to select a signal-caller. The Jets have already moved up and the Bills seem next in line. With no ammunition to do the same, Keim and company have to get creative in a desperate situation.
The return of David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald’s curtain call provide some hope but that seems to be about it. The Cardinals are trending the wrong way in an NFC West division that’s now run by young talent. Things can certainly change but it’s going to take quite the draft to give this team immediate results. For now, they’re at the bottom of the totem pole in my mind.
