2018 NBA Mock Draft: The standings are set
I tried all week to come up with an older example of a way-too-hyped college prospect over whom there was a ton of debate when it came to be draft time. I truly could not come up with anyone, though perhaps Maybe Anthony Bennett?
That was a different situation, however, considering Bennett was only scrutinized based on his draft position and the fact he was traded for the best player of the generation. But the potential level of discrepancy between Bagley’s reputation and draft position should not surprise those who watched Duke this year. Someone was bound to score, with how many smart offensive players were on the court at once most nights for Duke.
The bigger problems came on the other end, where Bagley’s inattention causes huge problems. You can’t really hide that, but you can minimize it. Sacramento has the makings of a fierce defensive team if Willie Cauley-Stein and De’Aaron Fox continue to develop alongside role player types such as Justin Jackson and Bogdan Bogdanovic.
Place Bagley within that structure, and perhaps his defensive concerns become muted. It’s tough to tell, but Bagley is the most recognizable face in the draft. After years of losing, that has to mean something to the Kings.
