San Diego Padres: Trade Chase Headley to the Los Angeles Dodgers

It is not often that teams like to trade within their division, but the San Diego Padres know they will not be chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers any time soon. In fact, the Padres have a long way to go before their are competitive in the division, and they should start to unload some of their veteran players.

The Dodgers need help in the infield, especially at third base, so trading for a guy like Chase Headley makes sense. Headley has been a professional hitter in this league for a long time, and would bring some more veteran leadership to the Dodgers clubhouse.

Los Angeles made a special run last season, and they have the talent to do that again in 2018. Currently, they are dealing with a broken wrist on star third baseman Justin Turner, and there is no timetable for his return.

Bringing in Headley would allow the team to bring Turner back slowly, as they are going to need him for the stretch run. This NL West division is going to go down to the wire, and even with Turner back, Headley could serve as a solid bat off the bench.

San Diego brought in Eric Hosmer this offseason, and it was a move that was supposed to put butts in the seats. Instead, they find themselves at the bottom of the NL West, winning only eight of their first 21 games.
