Average drivers (between $9,000 and $10,500)

Jimmie Johnson ($10,100) – First, he’s a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion for right around the median salary. Second, he’s been consistent here, even if he hasn’t been stellar (and he definitely hasn’t been that in 2018 either). Not an exciting pick but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Chase Elliott ($9,800) – Finished with a top 10 in this very race last year, and showed speed in qualifying as he’ll start third. Yes, he’s let you down more often than not this year, but this could be a place where he breaks good for once.

Jamie McMurray ($9,600) – Better here than you might guess or remember, coming home 17th or better each of the last four Sonoma stops. Like his teammate Kyle Larson, was fast in qualifying and will start the day fourth. You probably haven’t used him much this season, but this is a track where you could.

AJ Allmendinger ($9,100) – Has a reputation as a road course ace, but honestly has shown it more at Watkins Glen than Sonoma, where he’s been 30th or worse in three of the last four years. However, he had it going in qualifying, and he’s as cheap as you could possibly get in this tier, so the temptation is real.
