Alex Smith, Washington Redskins

Stats: 255 passing yards, two touchdowns and 14 rushing yards

Despite coming off a highly successful fantasy season, Alex Smith likely went undrafted in your fantasy draft. He just doesn’t offer the type of flash fantasy owners look for in the quarterback position.

Changing from the Andy Reid led Kansas City Chiefs to the Jay Gruden run Washington Redskins didn’t help his stock.

The Redskins offensive weapons are a little less intriguing and the team as a whole came with less optimism. However, Smith showed during the first week of the season that he can still put points on the board.

Washington’s offensive group has a little more fire power than expected. Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson looked good out of the backfield. Jordan Reed is healthy and looking like his old self.

It would be nice to see Smith stretch the field a little more, but the Redskins were in control for most of the game.

Smith isn’t an elite fantasy quarterback who is a must start every week. He is more of a matchup player who is a excellent fill in on bye weeks. Keep him in mind should your starter go down with a long-term injury.
