After the first Champions League game, Atletico Madrid are on top of the group, beating Monaco 2-1 in their first game. On Wednesday, Atletico host Club Brugge at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Brugge opened their Champions League campaign against Borussia Dortmund, losing 1-0.

After a slow start, Atletico have started to round into form, winning two of their last three games. In their last game, Atleti played a scoreless draw against city rivals Real Madrid. Scoring goals has been a problem early this season for Atletico Madrid. Both Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann have had slow starts. In all competitions, Atleti’s starting strikers have combined for only five goals. For Atletico to make a deep Champions League run, they will need both Costa and Griezmann to start scoring on a regular basis.

Club Brugge have qualified for the Champions League five times since 1992. Each time, they have played in the Champions League, they have failed to advance to the knockout rounds. Brugge are in a tough group and know that they are again unlikely to get out of the group stage. However, they can qualify for the Europa League if they finish third in the group. Brugge have got off to a fantastic start domestically, winning eight of nine games and picking up 25 points. Ivan Leko’s side have scored 29 goals this season. Wesley has scored six goals and at 21-years-old could attract the attention of bigger teams if he keeps scoring.
