TE: David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

David Njoku might already have a home in your fantasy league, but he’s worth mentioning here because he’ll be on waivers in more than half of leagues this week. Njoku is a true star at the tight end position as a former first-round pick, and he looks poised for a breakout at some point this season.

That could come sooner rather than later. Rashard Higgins is the Browns most reliable pass-catcher, but the standout wideout suffered a knee injury during his own breakout performance against the Baltimore Ravens. Higgins’s status is as clear as mud, but if he misses time, then look for Njoku to continue to soak up more opportunities.

Against Baltimore, Njoku caught 6 passes for 69 yards, leading the Browns in targets. He was more productive than Jarvis Landry, who has been inefficient as the Browns No. 1 wide receiver. Njoku hasn’t been much better, but with Antonio Callaway struggling with drops and Landry drawing most of the opposition’s best coverage, Njoku has a prime opportunity.

When the Browns take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, Njoku could be a good starting option at the tight end position. It’s unclear how many touchdowns could come his way in 2018, but it is worth noting that he caught 4 TD passes as a rookie last season. And that was with a much worse quarterback situation than he has now with Baker Mayfield.

Njoku has huge upside, and Mayfield has shown he is willing to stick with pass-catchers, even if they let him down with drops or poor routes. The connection these two have is intriguing, and Njoku could have a big day against Los Angeles.
