Wendell Smallwood, Philadelphia Eagles

Stats: three carries, 27 yards, three receptions for 44 yards

The Philadelphia Eagles running game was dealt a major blow with the injury to Jay Ajayi. He is slated to miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Philadelphia now needs to find a way to replace both his production and touches.

During Ajayi’s recent absence for a different injury, Wendell Smallwood saw an uptick in his workload. He was the only other running back to receive meaningful touches against the Minnesota Vikings.

Smallwood is a smaller back who uses his quickness and shiftiness to make defenders miss. However, the Eagles have shown a willingness give him touches in the redzone and working between the tackles.

Philadelphia does have some other options at running back they could turn to. Corey Clement, Darren Sproles and Josh Adams have all see some level of action this year.

However, Smallwood appears to have the trust of the team and could emerge as the lead back in a sound offense.

There have been some whispers that the Eagles may make a move to land Le’Veon Bell. However, those rumors appear to have been squashed. That still doesn’t mean the Eagles won’t make a trade to bring in some help at running back.
