Trae Young is officially done with the NBA preseason

With his nonchalant game-winner against the Heat, Trae Young has signaled he’s ready to get on with the regular season already.

Officially, Trae Young and the Hawks have one more preseason game — Friday night against the Miami Heat. However, I think we can unofficially say that Trae Young is done with all this.

Young, the No. 6 pick was traded to Atlanta on draft night for Luka Doncic. He had an up and down Summer League, averaging 17.0 points and 6.8 assists in just 25 minutes per game, but he also shot 38 percent from the floor. Preseason had been mostly more of the same — 16.0 points and 5.5 assists per game, but just 38.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent on 3-pointers.

But Young finished off the Hawks’ fourth preseason game with the ol’ calmly-drill-a-game-winning-30-footer-from-the-logo-move.

I can only think of two basketball plays swaggier than the cool-as-cucumber 30-foot game-winner. The first is literally jumping over a 7-foot French center for a thunderous dunk but with Kevin Seraphin out of the league, this is really only feasible in international competition. The other option would be if Young had turned his back on the basket and shimmying at the camera, a’la Nick Young, before the shot went in.

The good news is that John Collins took care of all the shimmying for Young from the bench. Young seemed to celebrate the biggest shot of his young professional career by walking back to the bench and wondering what all the fuss was about. Way to act like you’ve been here before (and will be again) young fella’.
