Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Stats: three catches, 81 yards and one touchdown

The Dallas Cowboys passing attack remains a work in progress. However, this week we finally saw Michael Gallup breakout. He’s a rookie receiver who flashed huge potential in the preseason. The five targets he saw against the Washington Redskins tied for a season high.

Dallas really struggled to establish a running attack this week. The Redskins have a stout defensive line that make it tough for Ezekiel Elliott to get going.

This forced the Cowboys to put the ball into Dak Prescott’s hands more. Prescott attempted a season high 35 passes for another season high 273 yards. The fact they were able to find some success through the air could impact the gameplan moving forward.

Dallas is still waiting for one of their receivers to step up. They have gotten some good performances out of Cole Beasley, but he is more of a complementary piece and slot guy.

Gallup is someone with big-time upside and the pedigree of a second round pick. It makes sense for the Cowboys to give him more time on the field and targets. Sometimes, the best way to get a young receiver going is by forcing the ball in his direction.
