Defense/special teams

Los Angeles Chargers vs Denver Broncos – $3400

There is no clear cut slam dunk defensive play this weekend. That is evident by the Chargers defense leading the pricing chart. Los Angeles has a strong defense but they are ranked 15th on the season. Missing their middle linebacker Denzel Perryman may cause some struggles as well. They top the charts because they play a Broncos offense that is second in the NFL in interceptions and lost a big piece in Demaryious Thomas. This is an interesting matchup and a confusing unit to be atop the pricing.

Baltimore Ravens vs Cincinnati Bengals – $3200

The Baltimore Ravens defense has actually struggled in the last two weeks. Still, they are a strong unit capable of shutting down even the best teams week to week. This week they get a rematch with divisional foe the Cincinnati Bengals. In the team’s first meeting the Ravens defense did not get a sack or turnover. They’ll need a better performance than that to make up for their price tag. They are the case of a defense that is better in reality than fantasy as they rank as the second best unit in the league despite their 19th placed ranking in fantasy.

Arizona Cardinals vs Oakland Raiders – $3100

Normally this is a two team discussion about defenses. This week the third team is included because it represents what I believe is the best play this weekend. The Arizona Cardinals have an underrated defense with the likes of Patrick Peterson, Budda Baker and Chandler Jones wreaking havoc on NFL offenses. They held their own against the high powered Chiefs attack a week ago. This week they get a much easier test in the Oakland Raiders. Derrick Carr has been under pressure all season long and Chandler Jones will make sure that continues.

Value defense/special teams

New York Giants vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers – $2400

In a weird defensive week, there are tough value plays to find. The option sticking out the most would be the Giants versus the Buccaneers. The Giants defense has not been strong all season but there is talent on the unit even without Snacks Harrison in the middle. They get a Buccaneers team that can move the ball but struggles to score. Last week Tampa had the most ever yards gained without scoring a touchdown. The Giants defense is a bottom four fantasy unit but they may surprise this weekend.
