Chris Godwin, WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Always tabbed as a possible breakout star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chris Godwin’s talent has never been in question, but rather, the chances of him getting meaningful targets in the Buccaneers offense have always been a topic of concern. Godwin plays on a team that boasts Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries, and tight end OJ Howard (injured reserve).

Last week was Godwin’s time to shine again, as the former Penn State star caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Though Godwin has surpassed 100 receiving yards before this season – in Week 10 against Washington – this was his biggest fantasy performance of the season, with his receiving touchdown being his fifth this year.

Godwin is averaging 13.8 yards per reception and 56.3 receiving yards per game, and he’s a surprisingly high-floor wideout despite being the No. 3 target in this offense. He has just two games with under 40 receiving yards this season, so he’s usually good for a handful of points.

DeSean Jackson’s thumb injury helped lead to Godwin’s huge Week 13, and since Jackson was ruled out quite early last week, he may not be a “go” in Week 14 agains the New Orleans Saints. Since that rivalry game could be a shootout, especially since Drew Brees will want to atone for his offense’s atrocious primetime performance in Week 13, Godwin deserves a close look from fantasy owners.
