Carolina Panthers TE Ian Thomas

The Carolina Panthers Week 15 Monday Night Football tilt against the New Orleans Saints wasn’t even as close to being as high-scoring as fans anticipated, as the Panthers lost 12-9 in an ugly NFC South contest. Christian McCaffrey was the lone bright spot for the Panthers offense, as he continued to show NFL fans why he is one of the game’s most dangerous weapons.

Panthers tight end Ian Thomas had put together a string of impressive performance as star tight end Greg Olsen’s injury replacement, but he fell back down to earth in Week 15 against New Orleans, suffering in a game that was low on the offensive production.

Thomas caught just two passes for 14 yards on four targets against the Saints, a far cry from his nine receptions for 77 yards in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns. That impressive stat line against Cleveland came in Thomas’s first full game without Olsen in the lineup, as he had a solid five receptions for 46 yards in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Olsen’s replacement.

The struggling Panthers will face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16, and that looks like a plus matchup for Thomas, who can get back on track. Tight ends are hard to come by, but Thomas is owned in less than 50-percent of leagues and has looked like a capable option outside of his off performance against New Orleans.
