Caitlin Clemmens talks about Bachelor break-up, Netflix and tips for Toronto real estate

THE BACHELOR - "2302" - Coltons search for love starts with laughs, surprises and intense face-offs between the women. The first date of the season has eight hopeful bachelorettes sharing personal stories about their "firsts" - with Colton and a live audience and coached by happily married masters of comedy Megan Mullally ("Will & Grace") and Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation"). Hannah B. scores the first one-on-one date on her birthday, including dinner on The Queen Mary. Twelve eager women attend "Camp Bachelor" with a decidedly unorthodox camp counselor, actor and comedian Billy Eichner, who oversees three challenging contests. However, some ill-timed drama the night of the rose ceremony might lead to certain ladies being left without a rose on "The Bachelor," MONDAY, JAN. 14 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network. FanSided caught up with The Bachelor’s Caitlin Clemmens to talk about her time on the show, life in Toronto and social media marketing 101.

Toronto-based real estate agent Caitlin Clemmens was an early favorite for Bachelor fans at the beginning of this season. She’s young, positive, successful and seems like a lot of fun. Unfortunately for Caitlin, she just didn’t get as much time with Colton in the early stages of the show.

Even after pulling a limo in The Bachelor‘s strong woman competition, she was sent home before the rose ceremony. This marked the season’s first really sad break-up. Don’t worry — Caitlin is back in Toronto now and things are going well!

FanSided caught up with Caitlin about her time on the show, dealing with DMs, being a successful real estate agent and what to watch on Netflix. It’s safe to say Colton missed the mark sending her home early.

FanSided (Bruin): Okay I have to know — did you actually pull the limo?

Caitlin: I sure did. I’m so strong! (Laughs) That’s what going to the gym all the time gets you. It was a struggle initially but once I got it moving it was good.

That’s awesome. I jumped out of my seat when that happened, I was fired up. You obviously take fitness very seriously, what’s a typical training session look like for you?

I’m not a huge cardio or class person. I like to lift weights when I go to the gym and I try to alternate between legs and arms. Actually, that’s a lie — I’ve been doing some classes since I got back [from The Bachelor] at Barry’s Bootcamp, which is a lot of fun. Honestly, if I get any kind of work out in at least three times a week, I feel good.

Nice, that’s good. Let’s talk about that last episode. So, breaking up with someone is always tough but how much more difficult was it having that break-up nationally televised?

It’s hard because you have to relive that experience. With a break-up in a normal setting, you don’t have to go through it twice. You go through it once and you go through the steps of getting over it. So it was hard to see myself on TV going through all those emotions, but you move on from it and it only helps you grow.

I think it was pretty clear it wasn’t anything you did. There were a lot of factors at play, time with Colton, etc. and all things considered, I thought you handled it really well. Have you gotten any messages of support since the episode aired?

Yeah, the girls have been amazing! A few of them have reached out to me to show their support. Ultimately, we all go through a wave of emotions on the show so they knew that I might be feeling a little bit down having to watch that again. To have them reach out meant the world.

It seems like Bachelor Nation is really good about that — supporting each other and everything.

Yeah, especially this year. The women have been so great. The majority of us all got along so well. More than I could have expected going into a house with 29 beautiful women, so.

(Laughs) True, well that’s good to hear. Are your DMs blowing up with Bachelor fans?

Yes, it’s wild! I’d say it’s about 99 percent supportive, encouraging messages and then there’s like, one person that’s commenting on the conversation that was aired [the break up]. Yeah. I try to just push those to the wayside and stay positive.

Obviously you’re going to get those kind of people too. It’s the way the internet works, unfortunately. Did you get any date requests or anything like that?

Men are wild in the DMs! (Laughs) There’s no filter whatsoever. I get a lot of comments like “Oh I know you didn’t get the rose but I’ll give you a dozen roses” or “If you need a shoulder to cry on after that limo exit, text me.” And I’m like “K, thanks, but no thanks.”

(Laughs) That’s hilarious. Let’s give these guys a blueprint. What’s the best way for someone to get your attention online?

Oh gosh… I don’t really know if there is a best way. I’ve had people go as far as to email my work email (laughs) which is just wild. But if they’re going that far it makes me laugh and I just have to read it because it’s so entertaining but, I mean, all the power to them. That takes guts.

Oh yeah, it shows commitment, right? (Laughs

Yeah, people are leaving it all out on the table, which is honestly really, really flattering.

This is a good time to jump into your work for a bit. Stark Realty [in Toronto, ON] — I’ve been going through the website and Instagram page. It’s really impressive! How did you and Brett set yourselves apart in an industry that seems over-saturated.

Thanks! And yeah, being in Toronto — it’s wild. There’s something like 50,000 real estate agents in the city. Brett and I have been working together for two years now. We both try to focus on media, so we have a lot of press contacts here in Toronto because we do a lot of outside the box marketing. We’ll post really trendy listing videos — one of our recent videos was a parody on the typical Toronto real estate agent, which got a lot of hype. We don’t really say no to opportunity and that’s what’s allowed us to be so successful.

I’m sure you’ve seen one of the articles that we sold a condo for Bitcoin. That was the first sale for Bitcoin in Canada, which was crazy. It opened the door for us to keep running wild with all these crazy marketing ideas.

The Bitcoin sale was crazy! I didn’t even know that was possible until I started doing some research for this interview.

Yeah! I mean, you can technically sell a house for chickens, if you want to (Laughs).

So going through the Instagram page, the one that stood out to me was the helicopter ride. Most real estate agents get their clients a bottle of wine or a gift card but you recently sent two clients on a helicopter tour of Toronto?

At the end of the day, real estate is referral based so if you can make that client experience top-notch, then you’re going to have them going out and telling other people about that experience and generating more business for you. That helicopter ride — it looks so extravagant and it’s one of the best things ever but it’s so inexpensive. If you’re going to go out and buy a bottle of expensive champagne or something, it’ll end up costing around the same amount. It was a really cool thing for us to do.

Oh for sure. Seeing that made me want to buy a place in Toronto and I live two hours away. (Laughs) Going back to The Bachelor. I saw that you updated some of your ABC bio on your Instagram page so I’m going to ask you a bit about that. What are you binge-ing on Netflix these days?

(Laughs) Oh God. Okay, so I’m actually struggling to find something to watch. I just watched You and it was so good. I started Peaky Blinders and I’m kind of slow to get going on that one. Does it get better?

Oh it does. It really does. Season 2 is phenomenal. I love that show.

Okay good. My go-to, if I’m exhausted from work or whatever, is Family Guy. It’s one of those shows you can just have on in the background while you’re doing other things.

Everyone has to have one of those comfort shows.

(Laughs) Exactly.

You also listed “tequila or whiskey” as your updated favorite desserts. (Laughs) What are your go-to brands?

Tromba Tequila is my go-to here. For whiskey, hmm. I drank a lot of Crown Royal in university (laughs). Right now, I guess it would be Jameson.

I like Jameson, too. Your bio also says you were big into competitive equestrian. Are you planning on getting back into it?

You know what, that’s funny — I’ve been talking to one of my colleagues up here about getting started in February. My goal was to try to compete for nationals again in 2020 if everything in my life allowed for that. So yeah, that’s definitely something I want to get back into because that was my passion for my entire life and once I moved to the city it became really difficult to continue doing it. Now that I have a chance to do it again, I’m not going to say no!

I hope you make it back, that’s great. Is there any chance we might see you horseback riding in Paradise

Ohh! I don’t know! That would be amazing. I’ve never ridden a horse on the beach, so that would be great. (Laughs)

Good! Okay this is my last question — how is Cooper [her dog]?

Oh my god! He’s amazing! He’s a little bit of a devil right now because he’s in his sassy, toddler stage. He wants to bite everything and bark at everything. I think wiener dogs are kind of known for being sassy so he’s really living up to that reputation. (Laughs) But he’s great! He’s so cute!
