2. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs’ offense was one of the most explosive units in football in 2019, with Patrick Mahomes cruising to the MVP award on the strength of a season where he threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Having explosive weapons like Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins certainly helped the cause, so you may be wondering why the Chiefs even need Tate.

As the fine folks at Arrowhead Addict point out, the Chiefs’ offensive unit isn’t very deep and could be susceptible to slumps if one of the big three gets injured. The Chiefs may also lose Chris Conley in free agency, leaving a slot receiver as a priority addition for Kansas City in the offseason.

With cap space at a premium in Kansas City, they may not be able to afford a splurge on a younger guy who can grow with Mahomes, like Adam Humphries. Getting a proven veteran like Tate would be perfect since his skill set meshes well with a need for the Chiefs, and they should be able to get him at a more reasonable price point.

Tate, who played in Doug Pederson’s system with the Eagles last season, would also likely jump at the opportunity to play for Andy Reid in Kansas City. The Chiefs may also be more motivated to try and add winning veterans like Tate as they aim to break their 50 year Super Bowl drought in 2019.
