Round 1 – Pick 9

Jawaan Taylor, T, Florida

With free agency yet to kick off the Buffalo Bills can go in many directions in the first round of the NFL Draft. Sitting just inside the top-ten, in a deep class at some premium positions leaves them in a good spot. The goal for Beane and company should be about complimenting their franchise quarterback Josh Allen.

There are a few ways they can attack that conundrum. First is to give Allen a top tier passing weapon. Unfortunately the top two on the board, Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, were already off the board. Rather than reach, the Bills brass can let the board fall to them.

The way it fell, the draft’s top tackle fell right into their lap. Florida tackle Jawaan Taylor is a do-it-all tackle who is considered an ascending prospect. Like many other Gators, Taylor’s play got a big boost from 2017 to ’18. He is a fluid mover in pass protection with excellent length and kick steps to provide depth to the pocket. In the run game his massive frame and powerful punch can help him overcome what could be sloppy hand placement at time.

With Dion Dawkins already in place, he and Taylor would give Allen and the Bills offense a pair of bookend tackles to build outside in. The team is in dire need of help at tackle after trading Cordy Glenn to the Bengals a year ago. That trade put them in a position to draft Allen and now they use this next year’s pick on Glenn’s replacement.
