In each of the last two NCAA Tournaments, a mid-major school has made an appearance in the Final Four. 2017 saw Gonzaga make it to the national title game and last year Loyola-Chicago made the impossible run to college’s biggest stage.

Since the initial tournament expansion in 1985, a total of 17 mid-major schools have made it to the Final Four. Of those 17, only Louisville (1986) and UNLV (1990) cut down the nets as champions from a mid-major conference.
