2. Los Angeles Chargers

Similar to the Patriots, the Chargers understand they need to find a quarterback to take over for Philip Rivers pretty soon. Los Angeles comes in just ahead of New England because it’s very likely that Rivers will retire before Brady.

It’s very possible the Chargers are the team who’ve already offered Arizona a second round pick for Rosen. They would love to get him in the building while Rivers is still there to let him learn from the future Hall of Famer. Rosen certainly didn’t have that luxury in Arizona.

The question the Chargers must ask themselves is whether or not dealing a high pick for Rosen now is worth the sacrifice of not giving Rivers the best possible chance to win a Super Bowl before he hangs up his cleats. The roster is in good shape, but every team in the NFL can benefit from adding a solid first or second round pick to their nucleus.

The Chargers calculation on Rosen will rely on how many years Rivers tells them he wants to play. If there’s a legitimate chance he retires after this season, look for Los Angeles to do what it takes to secure Rosen before the draft. If Rivers is willing to play two or three more years, the Chargers can afford to wait and see what other options might develop in the next 12 months.
