It was a season of disappointment for Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers. Could we see a bounce back campaign for this team from the Bay Area?

Could this be the season that everything falls the right way for Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers? The one-time offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons begins his third season at the helm of this team. In 2017, the club got off to a miserable 1-10 start before inserting newly-acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo into the starting lineup. The team finished the season with five straight wins and there was certainly hope looking forward

But in Week 3 last season at Kansas City, the talented signal-caller went down with a season-ending knee injury. Even before the 2018 began, coveted free agent pick up Jerick McKinnon was lost for the year. Losing two vital pieces would be part of a disappointing 4-12 finish this past season. Now Shanahan and company look ahead and hope to get this franchise back in the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

Here is how the complete schedule, week-by-week, lays out for the San Francisco 49ers:

Week 1: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 1 p.m. – FOX
Week 2: at Cincinnati Bengals – 1 p.m. – FOX
Week 3: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – 4 p.m. – FOX

Week 5: vs. Cleveland Browns (Mon.) – 8:20 p.m. – ESPN
Week 6: at Los Angeles Rams – 4 p.m. – FOX
Week 7: at Washington Redskins – 1 p.m. – FOX
Week 8: vs. Carolina Panthers – 4 p.m. – FOX

Week 13: at Baltimore Ravens – 1 p.m. – FOX

Week 15: vs. Atlanta Falcons – 4 p.m. – FOX
Week 16: vs. Los Angeles Rams – 4 p.m. – FOX
Week 17: at Seattle Seahawks – 4 p.m. – FOX

In 2018, the 49ers set dubious NFL records with two interceptions and seven total takeaways, the fewest ever by a team in a season. So it was no surprise that the franchise emphasized defense this offseason with the additions of pass-rusher Dee Ford and linebackers Kwon Alexander and David Mayo. And adding running back former Atlanta Falcons’ running back Tevin Coleman was a solid move as well.

General manager John Lynch has the second overall pick in the draft for the second time in three years. Back in 2017, he dealt that selection to the Chicago Bears and acquired additional selections. Will there be a case of déjà vu when it comes to the executive’s approach to this year’s proceedings?
