32 college football players destined to be future first round NFL Draft picks
6. Tua Tagovailoa – Quarterback, Alabama
Tua Tagovailoa helped turn everything we knew about Alabama offensive football on its head in 2018. They became a vertical passing team as Tua, and his group of the receivers went wild on the SEC throwing the ball all over the yard. He finished 2018 second in Heisman voting to Kyler Murray after posting nearly 4,000 yards passing and 43 touchdowns. And with the way Alabama blew teams out for most of the season, those numbers could have been even better.
Now the year did not end the way Tua would have hoped with some nagging injuries late in the regular season and a poor performance against Clemson, but that shouldn’t blind people to just how great he was in 2018.
Tua is 6-1 and a sturdy 230 pounds. He doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he is deadly accurate when he’s in rhythm and has some of the best touch on deep passes.
According to PFF, Tua had the highest percentage of passes in the country with perfect ball placement and the seventh-lowest percentage of passes among power-5 receivers deemed uncatchable. This guy has elite accuracy with his passes, and that is something you can’t teach.
