2. Jovic is one of the best strikers already

Real Madrid generally only buy the best of the best when it comes to attacking talent. Jovic clearly fits the bill. After shining with eight goals in nine appearances in his first season with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017-2018, Jovic blew up last season with 27 goals in 36 Champions League and Bundesliga games, including a ridiculous five-goal haul against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Jovic can finish effectively with either foot, and he provides the kind of end product that only a handful of strikers under the age of 23 can. It’s rare for a player this young to look close to the finished product, but Jovic’s goal-scoring speaks for itself.

It goes beyond the goals, though, even if they are the most important element of the position. While he isn’t quite on Sebastien Haller’s level, Jovic’s link-up play is a plus point, as his clever touches and awareness allow others to get involved in the game. When both players were healthy, Haller and Jovic had deadly combinations, and Frankfurt were one of the most entertaining teams in Europe to watch when Filip Kostic and Ante Rebic got involved on the wings.

There’s also Jovic’s athletic ability. His volley goal against Dusseldorf stands as one of the best of the season, as Jovic expertly contorted his body to meet Kostic’s cross. The ball thundered into the top of the net, with Dusseldorf’s keeper helpless to stop Jovic’s outrageous strike.

That goal is a microcosm of the kind of individual quality Jovic can bring to Real Madrid – a team that has seen its fair share of acrobatic goals on the big stage. At Madrid, awareness and consistent play are rewarded, but it’s also beneficial for a player to have the eye for the spectacular. Even as a No. 9 primarily focused on goals, Jovic can produce brilliant moments straight out of the top drawer.
