Zion Williamson doesn’t plan to enter the dunk contest, and that should sadden fans of the NBA.

We need you Michael Jordan. We need you, Vince Carter. We need you, Blake Griffin. Heck, we need you Dwight Howard, and no one has said that about Howard for a long, long while.

Please convince Zion Williamson that entering the dunk contest is worth his time because at the moment it seems like he’s not into it.

All of those players at one point won the dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in spectacular fashion, and sadly the event has lost some of its fire. Thanks a lot, Nate Robinson.

“I don’t think I’m going to do [the dunk contest] to be honest, unless something changes my mind,” Williamson said to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. “I’m not much of a dunk contest person, it’s kind of like I just do it in warmups to get myself going… We already got some great dunkers, they won’t be missing nothing with me.”

If you have seen Zion’s high school dunk mixtape, then you understand why his position on the dunk contest saddens fans of the NBA.

His college mixtape isn’t too shabby either. He also won the Powerade Jam Fest as a senior in high school, and so you shouldn’t buy that he’s “not much of a dunk contest person” line.

Former NBA highflyers, please talk this young man into participating. If he went up against the veteran dunk contest champ Carter next season, then that could have the potential of being the best one of all time.

In all likelihood, Williams will be the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft tonight, and he’ll instantly turn the New Orleans Pelicans into box office gold. Sorry Anthony Davis, but people are more interested in Zion than they were in you.
