Kai Havertz is one of the world’s most talented youngsters, and the Bayer Leverkusen superstar appears to be on Liverpool’s radar for a transfer in either 2019 or 2020.

It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Kai Havertz will be playing for a bigger club than Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, with Bayern Munich looking like the overwhelming favorites to sign one of Germany’s most exciting prospects in recent memory. But now, it looks like football fans can add Liverpool as another team closely monitoring Havertz, who would be a dream signing for Jurgen Klopp.

According to a report from BILD, Liverpool join Bayern and Barcelona as the powerhouse clubs with interest in signing Havertz. Though Bild note that Havertz remains interested in playing for Leverkusen, who surely wouldn’t sell anyway, in 2019 now that they’ve qualified for the Champions League, it’s hard to see him staying with the club in 2020.

Liverpool don’t necessarily need a new attacking midfielder, but a dynamic No. 10 could go a long way in helping Klopp’s side dethrone Manchester City in the Premier League. City won a thrilling title race between both sides, and while Liverpool did capture the Champions League title, there will be even more competition going forward with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and potentially Bayern stocking up on talent.

This summer, Liverpool have been linked to a reunion with Philippe Coutinho, who has essentially become surplus for Barcelona. Moreover, Barca have their eyes on a reunion of their own, as they remain interest in pursuing Neymar despite purchasing Antoine Griezmann for a cool 120 million euros.

Signing Coutinho would be difficult, given his salary and likely asking price from Barcelona. But if Liverpool are fine with waiting one more year, they could sign a young, better player with a smaller wage demand in Havertz, whose technical ability and goal-scoring prowess are even greater than Coutinho’s.

Havertz would be a perfect fit in Liverpool’s industrious midfield, which includes two world-class talents in Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum. But Havertz is more of an attacking player than either of those two, as he deposited a cool 17 goals in Bundesliga competition last season. Given his rapport with Kevin Volland, it would be exciting to see how he’d work with a more prolific passing target man in Roberto Firmino.

Next. One player Barcelona must not sell this summer. dark

At this point in time, Havertz has to be considered a “dream” signing for the future, and most young German talents like him tend to choose Bayern. But since Liverpool are a much stronger squad with a better managerial structure and proven Champions League success under Klopp, Havertz just might see Liverpool as the better option on the road to superstardom. That makes Havertz perhaps the biggest name to watch for Liverpool fans once 2020 comes around, assuming Havertz isn’t surprisingly swayed sooner.
