You won’t win any money betting on Clemson or Alabama to win the National Championship Game, but you will get great value with these long-shot bets.

Betting on college football this season seems to be a one-sum game. There’s the Clemson Tigers, who sit at 9/4 odds, and the Alabama Crimson Tide have the same odds. Then, there’s literally everyone else. You can bet on the next best team, the Georgia Bulldogs who are at 6/1. However, that’s not really the bet to make here. The bet to look at is Alabama and Clemson combined are -145, and the rest of the field is +145.

You can have every single team in the NCAA besides two, and get it for plus money. Those are Tiger Woods in his prime numbers. Betting the field is always a good bet for plus money.

Now, let’s think about specific teams that could actually win the National Championship. There aren’t many. This isn’t college basketball where 68 teams get a chance to make some magic. There are four teams at the end of the season that have a legitimate chance to make some noise, and even a certain undefeated team can’t get any love.

This season, there are some insane odds to win it all. With insane odds comes insane profitability if you’re able to pick that right team. Obviously, Alabama and Clemson are going to be the teams we pay attention to all year, but any given Saturday, as they say. Something that’s gone under the radar is Alabama hasn’t gone undefeated through an entire season since 2009. Last year, that one loss came in the National Championship, but it just shows that Nick Saban’s squad isn’t invincible.

Then there’s Clemson, who lost a ton of talent to the NFL Draft. They still have Trevor Lawrence, but anything can happen. Clemson almost lost to both Texas A&M and Syracuse early in the season before destroying everyone for the rest of the year. If they lost those two games, it wouldn’t have mattered what else they did they would be done.

So, basically, anything can happen in football. And if you can guess what that anything is, then you can make A LOT of money. So, who are those teams that can make you that money?
