MLB Power Rankings: What to expect from each team in the final month of baseball
By Sean Sears
26. Pittsburgh Pirates, 57-77, last in the NL Central (ranked 25th last week)
The Pirates have lost eight of their last 10 games and are still without OF Gregory Polanco and C Francisco Cervelli, two key ingredients to the Bucs offense. However, both players have been dealing with nagging injuries, particularly Polanco who missed time earlier in the season due to the same shoulder he had season-ending surgery in 2018. But there have some bright spots recently, like Bryan Reynolds, who’s had a breakout season with a .936 OPS and 145 wRC+.
25. Toronto Blue Jays, 54-81, 4th in the AL East (ranked 26th last week)
The Blue Jays pitching hasn’t been great but also hasn’t been truly healthy all season, but young pitcher Sean Reid-Foley has filled in for the Toronto rotation admirably. With a 2.49 ERA in four starts, the Blue Jays could really use a win in their rotation after trading away Stroman and SP Aaron Sanchez, who threw a combined no-hitter in his first game with the Astros.
