Getting a boost in starting pitching will help you in your championship pursuits as the fantasy baseball season comes to a close.

With some teams giving their starting pitchers extra rest as the playoffs approach, there are more streaming options available for you to add to your team. Any boost to your starting pitching stats will help you get that fantasy baseball championship.

The roster expansion also added a few more names into the starting pitching pool. It’s a good time to make important roster decisions because of the matchups and batters having little familiarity with these pitchers.

Some of these pitchers may help you in one or two pitching categories. They aren’t the elite pitchers that can help you in all four stats. Maybe a win, a few strikeouts or even low ratios is enough to make the pickup worthwhile.

As usual, these pitchers will be owned in less than 40 percent of ESPN leagues.

Kolby Allard, @BAL

The first of two pitchers in this game, Allard’s been pitching good enough to warrant streaming. Plus, against the Orioles, it’s a good matchup. While I like some of the hitters in Baltimore’s offense, they don’t perform consistently. They hit .253 with 39 home runs in August.

Allard is 3-0 in his last four starts with a 4.37 ERA, 1.324 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and six walks. I’ll talk about the Texas offense with the next pitcher. The Orioles had a .326 on-base percentage last month, 16th in the league. They are a home run-or-strikeout kind of team.

Dylan Bundy, vs. TEX

On the other side of the field is Bundy taking the mound for Baltimore. He has three quality starts, a 1-2 record, 4.25 ERA, 1.315 WHIP, 26 strikeouts and 10 walks in his last five starts.

The Rangers are another inpatient team. They finished fourth in team strikeouts (277) and last in batting average (.217) last month. Scoring 3.5 runs per game are not going to win a lot of games and that’s what the Rangers did.

Bundy may have a better shot at a win and will record more strikeouts than his opponent.

Elieser Hernandez, @PIT

Hernandez was a member of a previous streaming list. He makes his return with a good matchup against the Pirates. They hit .270 with 144 runs scored in 28 games last month, just over five runs per game. The Pirates offense is hitting .262 at home this season.

Over the last 15 days, Hernandez has a 3.94 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 13 strikeouts and four walks. He has two quality starts and a 2-1 record over his last five starts. The offense may not be able to give him a win but a couple of runs with five strikeouts over six innings is a solid outing.

The pitching pool for September 5 is a bit weak after the first two or three names. If you play DFS, taking a risk on one of these pitchers could make the difference in winning some money. For season-long players, adding a few extra strikeouts or a potential win could help you in the playoffs.
