Kevin Owens might be on his way back to NXT after being “fired” from SmackDown Live.

Over the last few months, Kevin Owens has been a long feud with the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” Shane McMahon. While it was supposed to be a modern version of Steve Austin vs. Vince McMahon, the best thing we got from it was KO utilizing The Stunner with Stone Cold’s blessing. The feud came to a head this Tuesday, when (Shane) McMahon took Elias’ place in the King of the Ring tournament. Owens was pegged to be the special guest referee. Chad Gable was declared the winner and Owens was attacked by an irate McMahon before being “fired.”

After the show, The Prize Fighter tweeted out 14-24-20. These numbers correspond with the letters N-X-T.

Owens debuted in NXT in 2015. During his time there, he held the NXT Championship for 143 days. He wrestled everyone from CJ Parker (now Juice Robinson), Sami Zayn, Neville (now PAC), Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.

Prior to NXT, Owens spent 14 years on the independent scene including Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. It was during this time that Owens first became close friends with current NXT Champion Adam Cole. Could a move to NXT reunite the pair as part of Undisputed ERA?

Undisputed ERA already consists of former ROH and PWG favorites Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong. Bobby Fish was also a longtime roster member of ROH. Owens has strong ties with all the members of NXT’s biggest faction. Adding Owens would make them even more lethal. Owens is an excellent heel and would round out the stable nicely.

Having a big name like Kevin will definitely bring more attention to NXT, especially with it moving to USA. There has been a concern of getting WWE fans to watch NXT who don’t already. A name of this caliber will bring new eyes to the product. Fans will tune in to see what will happen to Owens since he’s been “fired” from the main roster.

Going back to NXT roots would obviously put him back on Wednesdays nights on USA. AEW will be airing at the same time on TNT. He would be competing against his former Mount Rushmore brethren, The Young Bucks. The Bucks, Owens and Cole were allied in PWG, and arguably independent wrestling’s most formidable faction.
