Philippine’s Danny Kingad looks to score the biggest victory of his young MMA career and extend his winning streak to seven at ONE Century.
It will be no easy task for the rising star, but the Filipino looks to give Demetrious Johnson more than he could handle and become the new ONE Championship Flyweight World Grand Prix champion … if he can defeat the MMA icon.
Looking at one of the best talents competing under the ONE Championship banner, Kingad comes off as calm and a loving guy. It wasn’t an easy life for Kingad growing up. He grew up in poverty and had to endure the passing of his father, at the age of eight.
It wasn’t until his teenage years when Kingad’s cousin introduced him to MMA, and that’s when the young fighter began dedicating more of his time and commitment to the sport. After welcoming his first child in 2018, Kingad now has more responsibilities and a bigger purpose each time he prepares for a fight.
This will be the second contest that Kingad will have the opportunity to become a world champion. After his loss to Adriano Moraes at ONE: Legends of the World, we’ve seen a much more focused fighter in Kingad.
Leading up to the fight with Moraes, Kingad was 5-0, but admitted that nervousness and not being prepared for a title fight had him distracted. Since then, Kingad has been 6-0 and now knows what it takes to overcome any doubts in a title fight.
He’s constantly looking at tape after each fight to tighten up his skills and perfect any mistakes that he made previously. Kingad has the speed to keep up with Johnson, but more importantly, he’s shown several times that he’s built to go the distance if needed.
ONE: Century takes place on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, live from the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Follow along with FanSided MMA who will be cage-side for all your live results and highlights from the night.
