Hunter Henry or Darren Waller: Who helps you win your PPR league?

With great tight ends being such a scarcity in your fantasy league, who is better for you to help you win your PPR league: Hunter Henry or Darren Waller?

Tight end is a position in a bit of a reshuffling in the NFL. With Rob Gronkowski retiring, there has been a void in the tight end hierarchy league-wide. While tight ends like Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and Zach Ertz of the Philadelphia Eagles have solidified the top-end, it does get a tad thin after that.

However, guys like Hunter Henry of the Los Angeles Chargers and Darren Waller of the Oakland Raiders look to be solid players you could consider using to help you win your league this season. Which guy is better for you to win your PPR league: Henry or Waller? The Fantasy Footballers have that answer for you.

“We all love Darren Waller so, so very much around the office, but do we love him more than Hunter Henry in a PPR?” said Mike Wright. “The way that I see these two players is that I see Darren Waller’s floor is safer than Hunter Henry’s,” said Jason Moore. “But Hunter Henry’s ceiling is much higher because the quarterback is better.”

So clearly, there is an upside to having either tight end. You have a better understanding of what you’re going to get out of Waller week-to-week because he will be a significant part of Jon Gruden’s Raiders offense with Derek Carr playing quarterback. There’s not a ton of elite receivers to spread the ball around in Oakland, so Waller will certainly be the beneficiary of that.

As for Henry, there are weeks where he can be the best receiving threat for the Chargers with Philip Rivers throwing him the ball often. However, the Chargers have a clear No. 1 receiving option in Keenan Allen, who can get hot and take a bunch of targets away from Henry at tight end.

So which way do The Fantasy Footballers side on this? Moore is willing to assume the risk of Henry having a higher ceiling with serious boom-or-bust weekly potential, as opposed to the high-floor, low-ceiling nature of Waller in the Raiders offense.

If you were to trade either tight end, you will certainly command more for Henry for that reason. Given his injury-riddled past, it might be an even better idea to trade him to another team in your league and get some excellent complementary players, while you have closer to a sure thing in Waller if you happen to have both tight ends on your fantasy football team for some reason.
