Running Backs to Start

Aaron Jones (GB) @ LAC

Since Week 5, Aaron Jones has been the best running back in football averaging 4.9 yards per carry along with seven total touchdowns in that span. Although the Packers are still trying to employ a running back by committee backfield with both he and fellow teammate Jamaal Williams, Jones is clearly the better back by far. Green Bay will head to Los Angeles this week where they will be playing against a Chargers defense that has allowed opposing runners to score the sixth-most fantasy points per game this year (21.25).

Josh Jacobs (OAK) vs. DET

Jacobs has a great match-up waiting ahead of his as the Raiders prepare to host the Detroit Lions at the Black Hole this Sunday. Oakland’s rookie running back has had an up-and-down type of season, but this week I highly suspect he will be on the incline part of the roller coaster. The Lions have allowed running backs to score the third-most fantasy points per game against them (24.29) and it doesn’t appear to be getting much better for them any time soon. Only the Bengals and Dolphins have allowed more fantasy points per game to backs than Detroit and that is really saying something about the Lions’ run defense. Jacobs is primed to rumble for a big day in Oakland this Sunday afternoon.

Tevin Coleman (SF) @ ARI

As much as I hate having a player on this list because of a monster performance from just a week ago, I’m going to break my own rules once again. I know I did this last week with Marvin Jones and it worked out splendidly (notice the sarcasm in my writing). Anyway, Coleman appears he will be the Niner’s lead back for Thursday’s tilt against the Arizona Cardinals, as fellow back Matt Breida is dealing with an ankle injury. Coleman looks to be in line to have another good day at the office especially with Breida looking like he might not play, and the fact that the Arizona Cardinals have allowed on average 105.1 yards per game to opposing ball carriers this year.
