Value Midfielders
Marvelous Nakamba (Liverpool @ Aston Villa, $11) – It’s been a little bit since I included Nakamba in one of my EPL DFS Breakdowns. He has a great matchup against Liverpool this week in a game where tons of peripherals will be available for a defensive midfielder. Since his EPL debut, he’s put up no less than 12 fantasy points. I’m assuming there will be a lot of people scouring the value options on this slate with the large number of enticing studs on this slate. Nakamba is the first place I would go for value in the midfield position on Saturday. I’ve never seen his ownership high at all, but that’s most likely due to his limited attacking ability. However, I’ll take the consistent 12-16 fantasy points if it helps me get other studs.
Pascal Gross (Norwich @ Brighton, $11) – I was all over Gross value last week and it paid off big time when he scored at very low ownership last weekend. His price went up just a bit, but I’m still interested. He’s averaging 17.9 fantasy points over his last 6 EPL games which is well above his price point. He’s been creating a ton of chances lately and his role in set pieces is always strong. Not to mention that he’s taking on one of the worst defensive teams in the league this week. Gross will be a popular value play, but his ownership shouldn’t be high enough to pivot off him.
Abdoulaye Doucoure (Chelsea @ Watford, $10) – Two years ago Doucoure was one of my go-to value midfielders with his ability to collect all the different defensive peripherals. His production has dropped off since then, but he still knows how to fill the stat box. Chelsea are top 5 in giving up tackles, interceptions, and clearances so Doucoure should not struggle to get double digit points on defensive stats alone. Chelsea’s away defense also has not been good so a few chances created or shots on goal could go a long way with this play for only $10.
Fabinho (Liverpool @ Aston Villa, $10) – Fabinho is your best shot at getting exposure to a significantly favored team for cheap. He’s good for 1-2 chances created per game to go along with a wide spread of defensive peripherals. He essentially has 4 consecutive double-digit fantasy performances, and he has shown some 20+ fantasy point upside. As hard as I tried to find more good attacking value, Fabinho is as low as I feel comfortable going on this slate.
