The Oakland Raiders benched starting quarterback Derek Carr in favor of Mike Glennon in their brutal road loss to the New York Jets.

Even though the Cincinnati Bengals gave them a scare at home last week, the Oakland Raiders still found a way to overlook the New York Jets in their road game on Sunday.

Oakland has a huge division rivalry game next week with the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead, but the Silver and Black absolutely did not take care of business in MetLife, so much so that Derek Carr got benched.

Yes, it was a horror show for the Raiders, as they got waxed by Gang Green in MetLife. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold carved up this Raiders secondary like a Thanksgiving turkey. With the game seemingly out of reach, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden went with some height off the bench by replacing an ineffective Carr with Mike Glennon. So yeah, that’s how this game went.

Carr completed 15-of-27 passes for 127 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He averaged a poor 4.7 yards per pass attempt and yielded on a 52.6 passing efficiency rating. In short, Carr played the type of game that Gruden had hoped his quarterback had grown out of. Carr can grow reluctant to throw the ball down the field when facing pressure and this looked to be the case.

Oakland cannot feel good about its performance today. This was an opportunity for the Silver and Black to get to 7-4 on the year with an outside chance of upsetting the archrival Chiefs in Arrowhead. Instead, they are likely to fall back to .500, assuming they don’t get past Kansas City coming off a bye in next week’s game. Andy Reid coming off a bye is essentially a guaranteed win.

No, things probably won’t get better for Carr, as he has played the worst football of his NFL career in Arrowhead. It’ll be the first weekend of December and that means it will be cold in Kansas City. That does not bode well for him to move the ball down the field, something he did not do once again for the Silver and Black.

Oakland had a lot of problems in this game and you could smell this trap game from a mile away. We tried to warn the Raiders that this could happen in MetLife vs. a Jets team that is finally playing hard for its head coach Adam Gase. Instead, we got a massive blowout loss that Raider Nation absolutely didn’t need for its postseason push.
