DraftKings NBA picks January 27: Spend up front
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
Kevin Love ($7,900): Love has taken full advantage of the absence of Griffin over the last two games against Detroit. It’s an open audition for Love to get out of Cleveland right now. He has 83 DraftKings points in the two games against the Pistons after Blake went down. Love should be worth the money tonight.
LaMarcus Aldridge ($7,200): The Bulls were frighteningly bad up front before all of the injuries. With Gafford, Carter, and Markkanen all down, they don’t have a chance to stop Aldridge here. We’re about to see how much he still has in that tank. I can see Aldridge going over 50 DraftKings points for the second time in a week if this game stays close. UPDATE: Aldridge is down with a thumb injury, so keep an eye on who enters the starting five. Whoever it is, they deserve a look against the Bulls.
Honorable Mention:
Nemanja Bjelica ($6,500): Bjelica was ineffective in his first game against his former team, but don’t read too much into that. Bjelica now has a defined role on this team and plays consistent minutes every night. That wasn’t the case the first time around. I don’t see a big game for Bjelica here. That will be the guards, but I still see no reason why Bjelica can’t hit 30 DraftKings points for the fourth straight game.
Larry Nance ($5,400): Nance abused the Wizards and Bulls in the last two games. Detroit might be able to give a little more resistance, but I still see this as a good matchup. Nance is actually outscoring Love over the last two games. I don’t know if that comes to fruition here again, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it did.
Dark Horses:
Thad Young ($4,900): Young is finally getting more minutes now with the Bulls desperately thin up front. His production still isn’t guaranteed. In fact, it has been mostly LaVine on his own carrying the offense. Young is a good bet because of the minutes, but he’s not going to magically become a prolific scorer. That has never been his game. Thad will provide enough to hit value easily for this price.
P.J. Tucker ($4,100): Tucker sees a ton of minutes because of his high motor on defense, but that doesn’t always manifest itself in good fantasy numbers. Most of the time Tucker is an afterthought on offense. That may change with both Russ and Harden out. Don’t expect a lot from Tucker, but this could be one of the nights he cracks 30 DraftKings points. That’s a nice return.
