2020 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions select Tua Tagovailoa
By Brad Weiss
All the talk surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason was how good the team’s offense is going to be, and they did not disappoint during the season. However, it was also the defense that turned heads this past season, as it was a true Achilles Heel for the team in 2018, and was rebuilt on all three levels heading into 2019.
The Chiefs played very well against the pass all season long, but had their issues against the run, something to watch during the Super Bowl this Sunday. With their first-round pick, they should look to bring in one of the more versatile defensive linemen in this draft class, adding Raekwon Davis from Alabama at No. 31 overall.
Davis is athletic enough to play all over the line, as he has been used on the edge at Alabama, as well as one of the better run-stuffers in the SEC. The Chiefs need to bring in more talent along the defensive line, and in Davis, they would have not only a good guy in terms of depth, but someone who can come in and challenge for a starting role right away.
The San Francisco 49ers are the champions of the NFC, and it only took eight pass attempts by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to become that. In all seriousness, the 49ers ran the ball down the Green Bay Packers throats in the NFC Championship Game, and head into the Super Bowl with a defense that is going to be hard to score points on this Sunday.
Staying with that side of the ball, the 49ers should look to add talent to the cornerback room with the final pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, adding Jeff Gladney from TCU. This is a guy who can really shut down your best receiver, and would be a nice addition to a group that has some elite aging talent that he can learn from in the person of Richard Sherman.
So there you have it, our latest 2020 NFL mock draft.
This is one of the more exciting weekends in football, so whether or not you are a fan of the Chiefs or the 49ers, sit back, eat a bunch, and enjoy the final game of the 2019 season. After it is over, there is another seven months before we get started playing real games again.
