The PLAYERS Championship brings out all the big names to play at TPC Sawgrass but which dark horse golfers have the chance to win in 2020?

The Florida swing of the 2019-20 PGA Tour season reaches its biggest stop with The PLAYERS Championship from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach teeing off on March 12-15. Often casually referred to as the fifth major in golf, almost every big name will be out to play for a slice of the $15 million purse, the largest in golf (assuming no majors up their totals in 2020).

Tiger Woods, of course, has said that he will not be teeing it up at TPC Sawgrass, which is unfortunate for golf fans as he gears up to defend his win at The Masters last year come early April. However, the famed grounds in Florida, headlined by the 17th hole and the infamous (and daunting) island green will be littered with big stars.

Leading the way in that group is, without question, the defending champion at The PLAYERS Championship, Rory McIlroy. The No. 1 player in the world is the heavy favorite to capture back-to-back victories, listed with +650 odds. The next closest golfer in terms of odds to win is Jon Rahm at +1300, a player who has performed at an extremely high level as of late.

Despite McIlroy being such a heavy favorite at The PLAYERS Championship, the rest of the players in the top 20 in terms of best odds to win is a list full of big-name players. Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler and Bryson DeChambeau, among many more, all fall into that category.

However, not every winner on the PGA Tour — even at a tournament such as this one — comes from the favorites going into the week. That’s who we’ll be looking at here, golfers who fall beyond the top 20 for best odds to win. Let’s identify 10 possible dark horses, in no particular order, who could emerge as the winner at TPC Sawgrass for The PLAYERS Championship. (Note: All odds are courtesy of The Action Network.)
