3. The 1975 Cup Final, Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres Game 6

Am I biased as a Philadelphia Flyers fan here? Absolutely! But the NHL has opened the archives to some of their classic games and I could not resist diving into the last Stanley Cup the Flyers have to their name.

I was, admittedly, not alive when the Flyers won their back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. My mom went to the Stanley Cup parade during one of those years as a kid, but outside of pictures in memorabilia books and the iconic call of their first championship victory, I had no real touchstone to speak of for that era.

Going back to rewatch their second Stanley Cup winning moment is a great look back at the NHL’s history. The Flyers goal promotion with Tastykakes started during the 1970s and has lasted to the modern era of Philadelphia hockey, and it was great to hear the announcers call that out in the opening moments of the game.

Also, it’s absolutely wild to see hockey players skating around on the ice without helmets on. It makes for some really great shots of their hair flowing behind them as they speed down the ice, but knowing what we know now about headshots in the NHL, it’s almost unthinkable that it was even an option.

Seeing Bobby Clarke fist pump with just two seconds remaining in the game, realizing he’s just won back-to-back Stanley Cups, is quite the sight. Many people remember the Flyers first Stanley Cup victory, for good reason, but their second win is definitely one to revisit after all this time.
