UFC Jacksonville: Kevin Holland dominates, stops Anthony Hernandez early

Middleweight Kevin Holland made quick work of Anthony Hernandez at UFC Jacksonville, finishing him early in the first round with a barrage of strikes.

Kevin Holland defeated Anthony Hernandez via TKO, Round 1 – 0:39 at UFC Jacksonville on Wednesday, May 16, 2020, live from the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Holland came out aggressive and immediately found a home for an elbow, followed by a pair of knees to Hernandez’s midsection, earning the early finish.

“We were talking about it in the back before we even came out, like, go to the body, it’ll be over,” said Holland immediately following the win.

Holland also called for a fight with current UFC welterweight Mickey Gall.

Here’s how the entire fight played out.

Round 1

Holland came out aggressively with punches and straight kicks to the face of Hernandez. After an exchange near the fence, Holland landed an elbow that landed flush to the temple of Hernandez. Immediately after that, Holland landed a knee to Hernandez’s body which stunned Hernandez. Hernandez crumpled to his knees as Holland followed up with a barrage of strikes, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

This was Holland’s sixth bout with the UFC since making his promotional debut in August 2018. He came into this fight following a loss to Brendan Allen, but before that had won three in a row. With this win, the 27-year old Holland improves his professional record to 17-5, and 4-2 in the UFC.

Hernandez came to this fight with a 1-1 UFC record after he had impressed on Dana White’s Contender Series. He last fought in August 2019, picking up his first UFC win over Jun Yong Park.
