UFC Vegas 49: Who is Armen Petrosyan?
The UFC may have potentially signed their next light-heavyweight star in emerging Armenian prospect Armen Petrosyan, who will make his debut at UFC Vegas 49.
The 31-year-old Petrosyan earned a spot on the UFC roster after demolishing Karloyan Kolev on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021. He overwhelmed Kolev with his boxing and caused a strong reaction from UFC president Dana White.
Petrosyan made his MMA debut back in 2018 at WCSA Combat Ring 27. It took him just a matter of minutes to finish his opponent Makhmadsharif Mirzokhodzhaev in a TKO victory.
Petrosyan then took his talents to regional promotions such as AMC Fight Nights Global and Colosseum MMA. He earned a series of knockouts by showcasing an impressive kickboxing skillset that attracted the attention of the top MMA promotions.

A lone defeat to Hasan Yousefi at AMC 102 would fail to deter Petrosyan’s rise at light heavyweight. He followed it up by earning a 15-second knockout over Aleksandr Zemlyakov in his Colosseum MMA debut before getting the call from the UFC.
Petrosyan will face a tough first test in the octagon against Gregory Rodrigues at UFC Vegas 49. A former LFA standout, Rodrigues has won back-to-back fights in the UFC and has showcased solid striking prowess.
If Petrosyan can get past Rodrigues, he could be well on his way to potentially contending for a UFC title sooner rather than later. If his recent wins are any indication, he doesn’t allow his fights to go the distance.
