John Krasinski is taking his talents to YouTube to host Some Good News. It’s a show that’s dedicated lifting up spirits amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Office star John Krasinski is suiting up once again, and this time it isn’t to head to work as Jim Halpert. As of Sunday, Krasinski is the latest celebrity to hit YouTube, launching his own YouTube channel and show called Some Good News.

His new show is quite simple, and the title gives away it all. Some Good News is all about delivering the good news of the day to give us all some hope during the novel coronavirus pandemic. Krasinski didn’t say how often he’ll do episodes of his show, but with pretty much the entire world on lockdown at the moment, (just like the rest of us), it looks like Krasinski’s got nothing better to do than hang around YouTube.

The show, though, is a step in the right direction. With a hand-crafted sign with the words “SGN” colored on it (and made by his daughters), Krasinski steps into the role of the Fallons, Meyers and Olivers of the world all doing their thing at a desk from the comfort of their own homes. He starts the show with some of the good news of the week, highlighting the triumphs of everyone facing the coronavirus, from healthcare workers being cheered on to an act of goodwill for a deliveryman.

Arguably the best segment of his show are the interviews, launching right out the gate with a video interview with his Office co-star Steve Carell. For any fan of The Office, it’s a great little mini-reunion to see the two together (yet still social distancing) while recalling some of their favorite moments on set. Following Carell’s interview, Krasinski took it over to a hometown hero: a young girl, Coco, who went viral for the neighborhood parade she was thrown when she finished her last round of chemotherapy.

The stories combined are enough to put a smile on your face, with Krasinski a welcome addition nonetheless. It’s true, the market is a bit overcrowded with bored celebrities at home looking to fill their time during shut-ins as they encroach on the turf that internet stars like YouTubers and the Insta-famous have been doing for some time now. And the show also comes at a time where celebrities’ acts of goodwill are being judged with a close eye, mainly for the discrepancies of the class lifestyles between them and the average Joe during these stay-at-home times.

Still, though, Krasinski’s show doesn’t feel disingenuous, and it has heart. It feels like an honest way for him to (quite honestly) stay sane while stuck at home, and why not spread some happiness and cheer while you’re at it? And hopefully, Krasinski will continue to bring on the good news and fun interviews while most of the world enters another month of self-quarantine.
