An in-depth docuseries for the making of The Mandalorian is coming to Disney+ and it’s just in time for Star Wars Day.
Disney+’s The Mandalorian is the gift that keeps on giving. First, the series surprised and gifted us all with Baby Yoda, forever to be ingrained in the halls of television history. Now, Disney+ is giving fans bonus content as a new Mandalorian docuseries is set to come out soon.
The docuseries is called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian and will premiere on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day. This docuseries will be just as long as The Mandalorian itself, poised to be eight-episodes long, though runtimes for the episodes were not revealed yet. Series Executive Producer Jon Favreau will be the host of the series, and they’re promising a wide breadth of behind the scenes info for fans to see.
Here’s how Disney+ describes the upcoming series:
In Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, Executive Producer Jon Favreau invites the cast and crew to share an unprecedented look at the making of the series which quickly became a pop culture phenomenon after premiering in November. Debuting on the day that a worldwide community of fans celebrate all-things-Star Wars — Monday, May 4 — Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an eight-episode documentary series that pulls back the curtain on The Mandalorian. Each chapter explores a different facet of the first live-action Star Wars television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Jon Favreau.
In a release, Disney+ also shared a statement from Favreau himself, who said about the series: “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout season 1.”
There’s definitely lots to be explored within the series, and all fans of Star Wars will likely find something about this docuseries that they enjoy. Despite these not being new episodes of The Mandalorian, this making-of docuseries may at least be enough to hold us over until season 2 rolls out. Who knows, we might even learn a few secret things about Baby Yoda that wasn’t disclosed in the series.
In addition to Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, the final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will conveniently be out on Star Wars Day as well. This seventh season of Clone Wars is the final season of the series — with the final episodes being about the Siege of Mandalore.
Some are even guessing that these final episodes (as evident by the title) will have some sort of tie-in to The Mandalorian itself. It will be interesting to see how that’s done as this season of Clone Wars takes place generally around the Episode III timeline and The Mandalorian takes place after Episode VI.
Look out for both Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian and the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to hit Disney+ on May 4.
