5 teams that won the 2020 NFL Draft
4. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings went about their business quietly, but their class is really strong in terms of value. Minnesota deserves extra credit for improving their roster on both sides of the ball.
Things started off positively for the Vikings when Justin Jefferson fell to them at No. 22. He’s got a legitimate chance to replace the majority of what Stefon Diggs produced for their offense in 2019. The former LSU star will be a weapon for Kirk Cousins right away.
The offense will get another boost from Ezra Cleveland at the tackle position. He needs to add quality strength to hold up against NFL defensive lineman, but he has elite feet for the position. He has a legitimate chance to grow into a Pro Bowl left tackle if things break right for him in the future.
Cornerback is the position that will benefit the most from this year’s draft for the Vikings. Jeff Gladney was a solid pick at the bottom of Round 1. Grabbing Cameron Dantzler late on Day Two was an absolute steal for Minnesota. Both guys should play meaningful snaps for the Vikings as rookies.
Fourth round pick James Lynch has the size and mean streak that Mike Zimmer likes to see in defensive lineman. His technique needs refinement, but he’s landed in a great system to succeed. No one should be surprised if he turns into a quality starter early in his NFL career.
The same applies to Harrison Hands who the Colts scooped up in the fifth round. He may never be a starter on the boundary, but he profiles as ag uy who can really help Minnesota in nickel formations.
The Vikings came out of this draft with a ton of players who can help right away and still have room for growth in future years. It’s easy to see how this group can keep Minnesota in the playoffs for years to come.
