Updated NCAA basketball rankings for May after Greg Brown committed to Texas, NBA Draft declarations were made and transfers found new homes.

The college basketball rankings update for May is heavily influenced by NBA Draft declarations, big moves on the transfer portal and the recruiting trail.

Without the NCAA Tournament this year to heavily influence the offseason college basketball rankings, much of the movement hinges on which teams lost the most to graduation, which was something to be expected all year, such as Michigan State losing senior guard Cassius Winston to the NBA.

And then there are the expected early departures like one-and-done players such as Duke center Vernon Carey Jr. There are always a few surprises from freshmen who decide to stay in school and surprises the other way when players expected to stay, choose to declare for the NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft withdraw date was scheduled for May 29, shortly after the NBA Combine was to be held on May 21-24 but with the NBA season in limbo, the Draft Lottery and Combine have been postponed and it’s expected the NBA Draft will as well.

That means players who have declared for the 2020 NBA Draft may have a little more time to determine if they’ll stay in the draft or if they’ll return to school. Due to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding this draft, the NCAA and NBA will need to work together and be flexible with the deadlines. Once a proposed new NBA Draft withdrawal deadline is determined, it could result in some minor changes in the top 25 of the college basketball rankings and with more noticeable effects felt within conferences.

But for now, with many moves made in the transfer portal, NBA Draft declarations, seniors lost to graduation and big commitments in recruiting, such as Greg Brown committing to Texas, here are our updated college basketball rankings for May.

Honorable Mentions: Richmond, Stanford, Oregon, Indiana, LSU
