Could two of college football’s best broadcasters make the transition to the NFL? That could be the pressing question for ESPN’s Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit. The duo is best known for now working ABC’s premier college football game each Saturday.

Fowler has been with the network 1986 and hosted College Gameday from 1990-2014. He has been college football’s number one broadcaster since he took over for Brent Musburger following the 2014 BCS National Championship.

Herbstreit followed a career playing quarterback at Ohio State with a prestigious television career. He is one of the best in the game when it comes to providing analysis on both College Gameday and on countless high-profile football games.

Could the two make the transition to the NFL? They certainly have the talent to do it. It would remain to be seen how ESPN would make it possible. Would they still work college football on Saturday, then the NFL on Monday? Or would they give up their Saturday slate?

It’s hard to envision a Saturday night without Fowler and Herbstreit on the call, so if the two do get Monday Night Football, it would be fair to expect that duty to be in addition to working on Saturday. For how talented the duo is, it’s hard to see ESPN passing on the opportunity to give them even more air time.
