Chris Evans explained what went wrong with his dog’s viral haircut

Chris Evans appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed exactly what went wrong in that viral photo of his dog.

You don’t hear the words “epic fail” too often these days, but that’s about the only phrase you can use to describe what happened to Chris Evans’ poor dog, Dodger, recently. Previously, we saw that Evans was pretty adept at being an at-home barber, proving he did pretty well with a quarantine haircut for his brother. Unfortunately, that didn’t prove to be so true for his beloved pet.

While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’s at-home edition, Evans appeared via video chat and told Fallon the story behind the fail. If you haven’t seen the photo already, it’s absolutely laugh-out-loud worthy.

On Twitter (and his newly created Instagram account), Evans shared a photo of his dog with a seriously patchy coat. Of course, Evans meant well. But unfortunately, all the love for your dog in the world can’t guarantee you can give them a good haircut.

And so, on The Tonight Show, Evans explained the story behind the photo. “I had done it once before,” he explained. “Right when quarantine began, I gave him just a little bit of a trim — just, you know, with a little bit of timidity. And it went great. And so I got a little confident and put on a shorter attachment. And it just exploded in my face, and I kept trying to fix it. And eventually, I was like, ‘Alright, I just gotta cut my loses.'”

As Evans explained further, the first time worked like a charm because he and his dog had just come from a walk. And since the good boy was worn out from the walk, he was able to lay still for the haircut. The second time around, Evans made the mistake of doing the haircut right in the morning, so the dog had lots of energy and moved around during the whole thing.

Luckily, lots of people are still indoors, so Dodger won’t have to worry about being embarrassed on the streets. And soon enough, we’re sure, he’ll have a healthy coat again — and one that can be trimmed by a professional nonetheless. (Sorry Evans!)
