Three questions answered in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Fans of the Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins will be happy to learn she’s written a new Hunger Game series books and this one, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will answer some of the burning questions we were wondering through The Hunger Games, Mockingjay and Catching Fire.

Here’s the catch – this new book actually takes place before the series we have all grown to love ever even happens.

The story will center around President Snow‘s life and not Katniss Everdeen.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes spoilers ahead

Here are three questions we’ve all been wondering finally answered.

Why was Snow obsessed with roses?

In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, we learn the scent of roses reminds President Snow of his mother who died giving birth to Snow’s sister. It’s actually kind of heartbreaking.

Why did Snow hate Katniss so much?

Beyond the obvious reason for him to hate Katniss (or anyone who wants to overthrow the government). It’s because Katniss reminds him of his lost love, Lucy, who we meet in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She competes in the games as a rep for District 12 and well … we know how that turns out.

Who started the Hunger Games?

We learn the real mastermind behind the games is Dr. Volumnia Gaul.
