Professional wrestling has been at a standstill since the outbreak of COVID-19 but has continued to bring the industry excitement week after week. With the second iteration of AEW Double or Nothing the promotion gave fans viewing around the world several intriguing new matchups and moments. At the end of the night this was another example of AEW delivering a solid wrestling showcase.

The Stadium Stampede match between the Elite and Inner Circle was the main event of the evening. This was a creative match that brought together the worlds of professional wrestling and football as it was held on a football field with Super Bowl-like entrances. Adam “Hangman” Page even entered on his horse as a one-man stampede.

This match had every bit of craziness expected as the two teams battled throughout the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium. Proud and Powerful tried to drown Matt Hardy in the pool. Sammy Guevara was chased by yet another golf cart. Chris Jericho attempted to throw a challenge flag on Aubrey Edwards after she did not count the pin fall. There was even a bar fight between Page and Jake Hager. Everything would come to an end when Kenny Omega hit the One-Winged Angel in stands to get the pin on Guevara.

Jon Moxley had to dig deep to keep his AEW World Title. He and Brodie Lee beat each other up throughout the ring and part of the stage area. At one point, a paradigm shift on the stage caused both men to crash through it in what was a nostalgia call back to Taz and Bam Bam Bigelow doing the same in ECW back in 1998. Lee was a game challenger for the title as he continued to kick out of everything that Moxley hit him with. In fact, he would not be pinned to lose the match. Instead, Moxley locked on a rear naked choke and squeezed Lee’s neck until he fell unresponsive, forcing the ref to call for the bell and Moxley to keep that tile around his waist.

Hikaru Shida takes the AEW Women’s Championship

Hikaru Shida has been on a roll the last few months and that continued as she defeated Nyla Rose to become the new AEW Women’s Champion. Rose and Shida battered each other around the ring with anything they could get their hands on. They used tables, chairs and other props set up around the cage in the no disqualification, no count out match. At the end, it would be the kendo stick that Rose brought to the ring with her that would spell her downfall. Shida whit the former champion in the head with the stick then blasted her in the face with a running knee to get the finish and the championship.

Mike Tyson was announced as the special guest of the evening and his presence was needed to help Cody come out as the inaugural AEW TNT Champion. He and Lance Archer had a hard-hitting match where Archer’s size allowed him to dominate the smaller Cody for much of the night. The turning point came when both Arn Anderson and Jake Roberts were thrown to the back. Tyson would hold off a returning Roberts while Cody hit two Cross Rhodes to get the pin.

The Casino Ladder Match started things off as the first big moment of the evening came with Brian Cage made his AEW debut. Cage has been champion across other organizations such as Lucha Underground, FCW and Impact Wrestling. Everyone else in the match would try to put a stop to Cage’s display of power but it was not enough as he would climb the ladder, grab the poker chip, and earn a shot at the AEW Championship.

This has been a very difficult week in professional wrestling as both Shad Gaspard and Hana Kimura passed from the world too soon. AEW paid tribute to both individuals during the evening. At the end of the night, this was a very positive reminder to the
