Marvin Wilson and Florida State football are moving forward together.

Marvin Wilson called out his Florida State football coach Mike Norvell for lying to a reporter.

Wilson, who is a team leader and arguably the best player on the Seminoles, denied Norvell’s claim he reached out to every player on the college football team individually to discuss the events surrounding George Floyd’s murder by the Minneapolis police. His quote tweet of The Athletic’s Tashan Reed became a major story late Wednesday and into Thursday.

Less than 24 hours after catching his head coach in a lie, Wilson took to Instagram to say Florida State football is in a better spot right now, as they are moving forward together, striving to make a difference in their communities.

“Took a stand, we got what we wanted and we are moving forward,” Wilson wrote on Instagram. “I appreciate Coach Norvell for encouraging me to use my platform and speak for what me and [my] teammates believe in. Be the change that you need when you was growing up and help build black communities up and take back what is ours.”

Shortly after Wilson released his message on Instagram, Norvell tweeted out a message from his own account, taking accountability for his wrongdoing and praising the leadership Wilson demonstrated.

“I am proud of Marvin for utilizing his platform to express his reaction to my comments in an earlier interview,” tweeted Norvell. “Last Saturday evening, I sent a text to each player individually to present an opportunity for open communication with me. Many members of our team chose to respond and have more in-depth conversations about issues and feelings.”

“Marvin is right. I was mistaken to use the word ‘every’. Particularly at this time, words are important and I’m sorry.”

Florida State is lucky to have a leader like Wilson, who is already making an impact with his voice.
