DeSean Jackson issues another apology for racially insensitive Instagram post
Desean Jackson is further attempting to recover from his ill-advised comments.
Recently, DeSean Jackson came under tremendous fire for his insensitive words posted on social media. After reposting quotes believed to be from Adolf Hitler (the verity of which has since been contested) and supporting anti-semite Louis Farrakhan, Jackson received widespread criticism, and rightfully so.
The issue is especially problematic to the Philadelphia Eagles, with a Jewish team owner and general manager in Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman, respectively.
Since then, Jackson apologized and spoke with the Eagles organization, but has published another apology to further express his regret for the situation.
Jackson posted the quotes in an attempt to uplift the community amid a time of civil unrest, but clearly acknowledges the mistake in the particular material selected. In a passionate post, Jackson wrote, “This apology is more than just words – it is a promise to do better.”
Are DeSean’s Jackson’s apologies enough to overcome his mistake?
Regardless of the apology, many are still frustrated with Jackson’s behavior. Particularly because even if he were unsure of the impact of the specific words, he should be all too sure of the negative connotation of Hitler. The apologies are not enough to forget about that disregard.
Others have been quick to berate the mild response from the Eagles, speaking with Jackson but failing to reprimand him for his actions.
Contrarily, some have expressed their sympathy for Jackson, as he appears to be honestly apologetic for his behavior. We cannot know the true intent of Jackson’s comments, but at the very least, he has seemed sincere in the aftermath of an inexcusable mistake.
Whether that’ll be enough for the Eagles remains to be seen.
