Scott Kingery detailing battle with COVID-19 should scare us all.

If you aren’t already taking COVID-19 seriously, Phillies’ second baseman Scott Kingery’s experience with the virus should change your mind (hopefully).

In an interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, the MLB infielder broke down exactly what happened when he got sick and how he’s doing now.

“It started on a Thursday [June 11] when I came down with a headache,” he told the news outlet from the safety of his Arizona-based home. “I tried to play it off but it didn’t go away.”

He said he had body chills and his whole body was shaking from the high fever.

“That night, my fever spiked so high that I sweated through my sheets. It left an imprint of my body.”

He says that after his fever broke he lost his senses of taste and smell and was low energy and high fatigued for a week.

Kingery’s diagnoses came after his symptoms had left due to the slowness of the test results, due partly to being in a hotbed of COVID-19 cases.

Scott Kingery’s COVID-19 experience isn’t unique

Kingery’s case isn’t unique but he warns that there are all kinds of ways the virus shows, depending on the person.

“It really does spring on you fast,” he said. “Even if you don’t think you’re in a position to be exposed. It comes on very fast. It can creep up on you and get you pretty bad like it did with me.

I know five or six people who had it and every single person was affected differently. Some had a sore throat, really bad. I never had a sore throat. Some were asymptomatic the whole way. I was not.”

There are currently over 3.3 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States and more than 133,000 people have died from the highly-contagious virus. Kingery is hopeful he will be joining his team for the shortened 2020 season as he’s passed one COVID-19 test and waiting for another before boarding a plane to Philadelphia.
