Usain Bolt has a unique name for his newborn daughter

Usain Bolt has named his newborn daughter, and it’s terrific.

Usain Bolt is already a spectacular name in its own right. Being named “Usain Bolt” while also being an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and arguably the greatest sprinter of all time is even more spectacular.

It’s only appropriate, then, that the newborn daughter of a man with such an incredible name — and such an incredibly fitting name — would also have a fantastic name of her own.

Usain Bolt tweeted the name of his daughter on Tuesday, and it’s simply delightful:

Olympia Lightning Bolt. Even if she never grows up to share her father’s love or affinity for running, she has been gifted an absolutely supreme name.

We start with Olympia. This is a beautiful name in its own right, but one that also denotes power. You wouldn’t be faulted for being reminded of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece where the gods dwelled in Greek mythology — ruled by Zeus himself, whose weapon of choice was hurling mighty lightning bolts from the heavens.

You also wouldn’t be faulted if Olympia felt somewhat reminiscent of the Olympics, where her father Usain absolutely dominated during his running career. He is the only sprinter to win the 100 m and 200 m titles at three consecutive Olympics, and he set double sprint world record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, making him the first person to hold both world records since fully automatic time became mandatory.

Going back to Olympia, her name only gets better from there, as her middle name — Lightning — literally crackles with power. Throw in the Bolt surname and you’ve got one of the most formidable yet charmingly appropriate names for a newborn baby girl of all time: Olympia Lightning Bolt.

No matter what life holds in store for her, that’s one name that hit the ground running with the speed of her father and the authority of an actual lightning bolt.
